Things to do in Santiago and where to stay

Things to do in Santiago and where to stay.

Santiago is often a transit city with travellers on their way to Patagonia however when I flew into Santiago I knew I wanted to see as much as I could of the city. There is a lot to see and do and also great places to eat and stay.

Things to do in Santiago

Ride the funicular to Cerro San Cristobal

The hill is about 300 metres above the rest of Santiago.  It is a lovely cable car ride up and then there is a beautiful chapel at the top.

Visit the Seafood Mercado and La Vega Market

The locals head here for fresh seafood and you should too.  Try the crab legs, they were huge!

Walk through Cementerio General

All but two of Chile’s presidents are buried here.  You will find beautiful sculptures and many graves decorated with flowers.  It is a pleasant place for a quiet walk.

Eat Chorrillana

Chorrillana is a typical chilean dish with sliced beef, cheese and onions on top of french fries.  It is a type of junk food for Chileans and its absolutely delicious.

Visit Plaza de Armas

Its a gathering place with beautiful statues and buildings surrounding it.  It is a big plaza with a lot of people so watch your belongings.  There is a large police presence there.

Visit Santiago Metropolitan Cathedral

One of the beautiful buildings in the Plaza.  The architecture is stunning as is the stained glass inside.  Definitely worth a visit.

Go up Gran Torre Santiago

This observation deck offers the best views of Santiago.  It is simply spectacular and unmissable when in Santiago.

Where to stay

I stayed at the Luciano K Hotel which is centrally located on a palm tree lined avenue in the beautiful Lastarria neighbourhood close to Bellavista.

Luciano K Hotel is a boutique hotel with 38 rooms. There is a roof top terrace and heated swimming pool and bar over looking Parque Forestal.

Built in 1920, the building was the tallest building in Santiago at the time. It was built by Luciano Kulczewski and at the time it had the first lift in a building.

Since it was built in the 1920s the elegance of the art deco architecture can be seen throughout the place. I found it extremely comfortable and to be my little home away from home. From the comfortable bed to the huge bathroom to even a little desk for me to sit and work it had everything I needed.

I was extremely happy to have stayed here as the staff were so helpful and friendly and there was an amazing breakfast spread the next morning before I headed to the airport.

And just to mention the hotel is the winner of the Travellers Choice 2017!

Many thanks to Luciano K Hotel for sponsoring my stay in Santiago. Like always, all opinions are my own.
